JCC Designer Home Showcase
Greetings!
I am so excited to be a part of the JCC Designer Home Showcase! Ann Silva of Ann Silva's Bernina Sewing Center and I have created a wonderful sewing room for the Showcase. I am delighted to share with you photos of our room. Take the opportunity to visit the Showcase (see information and directions in the left column). You'll enjoy seeing all of the wonderful rooms created by 7 designers. As I mentioned in my last newsletter, I decorated a home in Charleston, SC. I am pleased to show you some areas of that home in this newsletter. I hope you enjoy it all!
For the Showcase sewing room, Ann and I selected an Asian theme. All of the quilts have Asian inspired fabric.
The beautiful hanging quilt, placed on the diagonal, is hung differently from the way the other quilts in the room are placed. The quilt is flanked by panels and praying buddah sculptures.
Each side panel is actually 2 individual panels, placed one over the other. These are inexpensive ratten panels purchased at Pier 1 (as are the buddahs and bench). This look can be created with other decorative items - the possibilities are many!
Two of Ann's Asian quilts are placed on each side of a bookcase which holds fabrics, threads, containers and some fun accessories. This concept can be used in any type of room by using art, a collection of photos or perhaps mirrors on the sides of open or closed tall cabinetry. The possibities are 'endless'.
And who said that a bathroom cannot be as special as the other rooms? Not I! Look at the LARGE quilt and the oversized sculpture in the small bathroom. Consider using accessories in your bath that you may have thought was only for the 'other' rooms. You have heard of thinking 'out of the box' - well, the bath is the place to start.
This charming towne house that I decorated in Charleston, SC is the location of this small and colorful room. Three oversized pieces of art and the use of a color palette of two colors + white creates this outstanding area. Touches of black (on the dining room chairs) and a wood coffee table make this a warm and inviting area to be in. Consider painting a bright color on one or more walls, using the wall color as a background for art that pops. With today's technology, fabric can be treated to resist stains and soil, so using a light upholostery is something to consider.
Another view of the living room. Note how the white cabinetry on each side of the fireplace, as well as all of the white trim in the room, creates an exciting look. The little touch of placing a white bowl, with (wooden) apples, on the coffee table is a subtle way of tying in the white used on each side of the room (one side has the white cabinets and the other side of the room has 3 oversized pieces of art).
This living room is in Corrales, NM. The color palette is similar to the home in South Carolina. Using the golden yellow on the walls, the red area rug on the floor and the deep red drapery side panels creates an outstanding room for the homeowners who love color.
